Transport Canada minimum requirements for pilots licenses will vary and includes both ground school and flying time. For example: The private pilots license consists of 45 hours flying time and 40 hours ground school however the average student will require about 50 to 60 hours flying time. Depending on the time of the year (weather), student aptitude and individual schedules, the Private Pilot's License can take anywhere from three months to a year.
NOTE: For complete information on all our license and permit courses please see our License and Permit Information page.
The cost of learning to fly will vary from student to student. For instance, the type of aircraft chosen, (NOTE: for more information on the aircraft we have to offer see our Rental Price List) materials chosen and individual pace are only a few variables. On average, however, a student can expect to obtain a Private Pilot's License for approximately $5,000.00. This includes air, ground training and materials required.
Most students pay for their lessons upon completion of each flight. However some students prefer to set up an account and "fly it off". We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, cheques and debit cards.
Provided the medical validation is on your person, you have met all the requirements and are considered safe by your flight instructor, you may be sent on your first solo flight, on average, after around 15 hours of dual training. This does not qualify you to carry passengers. Once licensed you may carry passengers.
Prior to going solo, thereis a solo written exam primarily on air regulations. Your instructor will fully prepare you for them prior to writing them. For the license, there is a Transport Canada written exam which your ground school will prepare you for. A flight test is also required near the end of your training
